There are mornings when the sky feels like a whisper from God, soft, wild, and full of wonder. Today was one of those mornings.
I woke up early, before the sun had a chance to stretch across Georgia’s horizon, and stepped outside to image C/2025 A6 LEMMON. I’m so glad I did. The comet hung there like a secret, faint, fleeting, and impossibly beautiful. It didn’t shout. It shimmered. And in that quiet shimmer, I felt something deep stir.
I’ve always loved comets, not just for their tails or their rarity, but for what they represent. My total number of comets I have captured over the last 13 years is somewhere now in the 20s, and it never gets old. They are mystery incarnate, icy messengers from the edge of our solar system, flung into view by forces we barely understand. They don’t follow our schedules. They arrive unannounced, linger briefly, and vanish. And yet, when they appear, they invite us to look up, to wonder, to remember.
To me, comets are gifts from God. Not just celestial objects, but spiritual nudges, reminders that the universe is vast, that beauty can be sudden, and that adventure is always possible. They keep my imagination open and wild. They remind me that faith isn’t just about answers, it’s about awe. It’s about waking up early, stepping into the cold, and letting your heart be surprised.
This morning, as I stood beneath the stars with my telescope and camera, the crispness of the morning air in my lungs, the wet morning dew on the grass soaking through my socks, I felt that sacred sense of wonder. C/2025 A6 LEMMON is not just a comet to me, it is a call to remember that the sky is alive, that God still speaks in streaks of light, and that wonder is worth chasing.
So I’ll keep chasing. I’ll keep waking up early. I’ll keep letting comets pull me out of bed and into the mystery. Because in their brief brilliance, I find something eternal.
I want to say a special thank you to recent subscribers of Our Night Sky who have invested in its growth. Your generosity and investment in this humble little website means so much to me. Your gifts are used to give back to those who need a helping hand, an extra boost of encouragement, or someone to walk alongside them in their struggles. That can look like a coffee, a lunch, or a small token of bread and milk when it is needed. Not so long ago, that was me, and I am forever grateful for those who walked alongside me without hesitation. That is the true spirit Jesus calls us to embrace.
Until next time, keep looking up.
